April Family Promise Rotation
2024 Family Promise
April Hosting Update – March “Gladness”
So this week starts March Madness for men’s and women’s college basketball. How about let’s make it March Gladness for our Family Promise families. Our donations of Gift Cards for everyday expenses such as transportation, gas, and basic necessities such as toiletries and food will enable the working parents to direct a greater portion of their earnings to their program savings accounts. We will thus help them toward their ultimate goal of enough savings upon FP graduation to make a down payment on their own home.

Our April 2024 Families
Please take a moment to get to know a little bit about each the families we are lifting up. I know that they are working hard within the comprehensive Family Promise and Lunch Break program to return to a stable, happy family life.
Family 1 – Single mother of three who works for a local school system. Has taken on a second job to help save money to be able to afford her own apartment. Has fled Domestic abuse and is finding joy in finding herself.
Family 2 – Single father of 5, works two jobs. He is a mild mannered man who is looking to find one job that makes enough money so he does not have to work 60 hours a week and can spend more time with his family.
Family 3 – Single mother of 4 children, all under the age of 6. She is struggling to get her DACA restored so she can work in the country legally.
Family 4 – Family of 6. Mother and husband who have custody of her children and take care of her own special needs daughter. They both work full time at a fast food restaurant. They are saving money to get a house for all of them. They lost their home due to fire.
Family 5 – Single Father of two 10 year old boys. Their mother died suddenly a few years ago and they have been struggling to stay afloat since then. The children are mild mannered, kind and obedient. They have been through a lot. Their father is trying his best to make ends meet and to be a supportive father to his sons. He is a hard worker but needs the support of Family Promise to help him realize his goals of finding permanent housing and working while starting his own business.
Family 6 – Young couple who found they had no home to go to when their family lost their lease. They are the parents to a 1 1/2 year old. They aspire to save enough money to be able to move to North Carolina where the rents are cheaper and they can find work there to sustain their family.
Family 7 – Mother of two. Her own mother just passed away and prior to her passing, she added her to her lease and her section 8 voucher. That means she will have a place of her own to call home hopefully very soon.
Recent Graduates
Family 1- Single father who was the victim of Domestic Abuse. He fought for custody of his son and won. They recently got their own apartment. He saved enough money during his time in the Family Promise program that he was able to move in without the need for down payment assistance. He has a steady job where they adore him and he has room to move up the ladder.
Family 2 – Mom and Domestic Abuse victim. Recently moved into her own place for herself and twin daughters. She also started a new job at a local hospital, began counseling and is very proud of her own personal progress.

April Hosting Update
Blast off!! We are off to a good start in our April hosting drive, so thanks to all who have made donations thus far. We need to keep the “mo” going during Week 2, so hope to hear from many more of you as we march (pun intended) toward our Gift Card goals. Remember that our gifts help to take a bite out of some of the families’ everyday living expenses for gas, transportation, food and basic necessities, and allow them to save more money ( a program requirement) for a down payment on an apartment when they graduate from the Family Promise program.
For those of you who have not met the seven homeless families we are lifting up, please take a moment to click the link below and get to know a little bit about each. I know that they are working hard within the comprehensive Family Promise and Lunch Break program to make their way back to a true and stable family life.

Expanding the Breadth of Parish Support
In the ensuing weeks in the March Dragon Pause and Service Bulletins, we will be continuing our drive to support the current Family Promise children and parents. The upcoming drive information will include a profile of your neighbors who will be the recipients of our generosity, as well as an update on the gift card responses. My hope for this holiest of seasons is to cut an even wider swath among St. George’s parishioners who can help in any way. Thank you for considering Family Promise as a landing spot for your Easter and Lenten blessings.
